A cyst. What does that make you think of?
For some New Roads back pain sufferers, it would be a hint
to the basis of their pain. But the diagnosis of a
synovial cyst as the culprit causing pain is a curious one. Back pain and leg pain may stem from a
synovial cyst which is where New Roads chiropractic care at
New Roads Chiropractic Center is effective. New Roads
chiropractic care with the Cox® Technic is shown to help reduce
back pain and related leg pain because of a synovial cyst without
New Roads back surgery.
SYNOVIAL CYST FACTS
First, let us take a look at what
synovial cysts are. Synovial cysts are uncommon lesions associated
with facet degeneration and usually found in the lumbar spine at
L4-S1. (1) 33% to 40% of synovial cysts are associated
with degenerative spondylolisthesis and instability of the affected
joint. (2,3) Synovial cysts may produce sciatica/leg pain.
(4) Synovial cysts occur in females mostly in their 6th
decade of life, giving rise to radicular pain
and neurological deficits. These cysts are commonly
seen at L4-5 which is also the site of maximum mobility in the lumbar spine.
MRI is the diagnostic tool of choice as it exhibits
the texture of the cyst (more or less fluid). (5) When
synovial cysts seem lighter on MRI T2 images, they are probably
more fluid filled and less probably gelatinous or calcified, making
them potentially easier to ease. (6) Synovial cysts
have been reported to disappear particularly
if the cyst wall is not calcified. (7) New Roads Chiropractic Center works to help
New Roads back pain sufferers dealing with synovial cyst get rid of
them, too.
SYNOVIAL CYST CAUSES
Wilby et al portray a channel that joins
the facet joint capsule with the ligamentum flavum, the area where the synovial
cysts become visible. At surgery for these cysts,
they discovered that fragments of articular cartilage and bone were
in the walls of the channels in 89% of the cysts. This debris jams and
prevents the channel from draining and provokes granulation
tissue and scar formation likely leading to
synovial cyst formation. (8) New Roads Chiropractic Center works on scar tissue to
enhance the spine’s fluidity.
SYNOVIAL CYST TREATMENT
Conservative treatment of lumbar spine synovial cysts is recommended
as some tend to vanish without surgery. (9)
Conservative treatment is practical. If the cyst doesn’t respond, then surgery is an option. (5) Cox® Technic has a record
of conservative care relief for synovial cysts. (10) As used
at New Roads Chiropractic Center, Cox® Technic was effective at relief when
an epidural steroid injection did not. (11) In another case, a 75
year old man with back and leg pain and a synovial cyst treated for 3 months/16
visits experienced 80% relief. (12) Cox® Technic at New Roads Chiropractic Center
is relieving for numerous New Roads back pain sufferers
with synovial cysts.
